Julia Budenz has been working on "The Gardens of Flora Baum" since 1969.   It is presently the longest poem in English and, as yet, incomplete, though all of it has been planned by the author. The author has completed and polished Books One and Two, together with substantial portions of Books Three, Four, and Five.  She continues to work on the portions as yet unfinished.  Carmina Carmentis is a twofold selection from Book Three ("Rome").

Praise for Julia Budenz:

"The Gardens of Flora Baum" is a shimmering, tragic celebration of contemporary civilization, encompassing the cultural past and the intricate mystery of wild and cultivated nature..and yet it is also intensely personal, a sort of spiritual autobiography....
-- Frederick Turner, author of Paradise and Genesis

Native to the domain of the Muses, these gardens have cultivated an often brilliant profusion.  It is poetry of the highest order.
                -- Robert Fitzgerald
